Caroline Mhlanga

Jazz, Gospel, Soul and Stage Presence

Caroline Mhlanga is one of the most versatile singers on the German jazz scene. Raised in a musically influenced family, she was introduced to gospel, African rhythms, blues, and jazz at an early age. Her father was an organist in several bands, and her uncle is the internationally renowned South African guitarist Louis Mhlanga – both of whom had a decisive influence on her musical career. As a teenager, she sang with an American gospel choir – the launching pad for a career that has taken her from church stages to international jazz festivals. Her charismatic voice, natural soul, and energetic stage presence make her a favorite with audiences – authentic, powerful, and always with heart.

She can currently be seen with the Barrelhouse Jazz Band in their program "Let The Good Times Roll" – a rousing blend of classic jazz standards, blues, and songs with African and Creole flair. She also performs in duos and with pianist Jan Luley's trio, which is complemented by double bass and drums. These formations create a direct, intense interplay that allows room for improvisation and the spontaneous development of the songs.
Caroline Mhlanga touches audiences with her musical depth, stylistic mastery, and her ability to tell stories through music – a performance that will stay with you forever.
