Let Them Talk - A tribute to the birthplace of jazz
CLEO is one of the most promising newcomers among young European singers, as her music exudes the depth and emotional intensity of the blues. Her voice evokes a sensation of velvet and chili, and she wields it with a disarmingly natural virtuosity.
As a child, she sang in a gospel choir; through her father, who himself played Mississippi slide guitar, she was introduced to the blues at an early age. When she was 15, her family moved to New Orleans for six months, with further longer stays following. For CLEO's debut CD, "Let Them Talk," producer and pianist Jan Luley gathers a host of internationally renowned top musicians who share his emotional connection to the birthplace of jazz—New Orleans, Louisiana—and weaves fresh arrangements around classics of music history. CLEO's own composition, "Move On," a minimalistic version featuring only double bass, trombone, and plucked violin, fits perfectly into the mix.
Cleo's natural, refreshing stage presence stems from her dedication to music and her authentic, enchanting manner, as she takes off her shoes at a concert and sits on the edge of the stage, connecting with the audience in her own unique way. Her music reflects all the influences of American musical history: a rousing gumbo of swing, blues, and soul, inspired by American gospel, blues, and jazz artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Eva Cassidy, Gregory Porter, and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. Cleo always finds her musical way back to New Orleans, where it all began: jazz and her career.
