 Composition for piano

 Jäätunud Hommik – Icy Morning was created after a winter morning on the Estonian coast. With temperatures around -20°C, the Baltic Sea was covered by a solid layer of ice, while ice floes piled up on the shore. The silence of the landscape was broken only by the cracking and creaking of the ice.

 The composition attempts to capture this special atmosphere in music: expansive, calm and contemplative, yet with an underlying restlessness — a musical image of the Nordic winter and its striking, stark beauty.

 The piece moves harmoniously in cool Maj7 and Lydian sounds, with a calm ostinato in the left hand as a sonic foundation and an optional improvisation section for those who wish to move freely beyond the chord symbols in their playing.
